Welcome to my D&D game.
This page will help you understand how we'll be playing the game.
It's important to read this section before we play. You can dip into other pages as needed.
I use a blend of the three pillars of D&D (Tactical combat, Role-play, Exploration) but with a greater emphasis on exploration than other modern games. Your characters will be exploring and interacting with the world for the majority of the game. That may result in combat or role-playing interactions with NPCs.
Role-playing for me is more about "taking on a role". You should think how your character would act and speak in a given situation. That may or may not mean you're speaking in character, that's up to you.
Both of these variants are perfect:
Player: Alan wants to ask the shopkeeper if they can get a bulk discount on some rope.
Player: "Oi, shopkeep! Watcha say to giving us that entire barrel of rope at a discount?"
Everyone is on the same side and will not backstab each other. If the excuse is "but my character would have done it" then you need a new character.
This is supposed to be a fun game for all players first and foremost.
The campaign will require you for pursuing your goals and the world will change based on your in-game actions. There isn't one path I'll force you to follow so you'll need to self-direct as a group to decide what you want to do.
That also means what you do will change the world, for better and worse. Your actions and news of your actions will get around.
E.g. Decide not to save a key villager? No problem, now the village will struggle and gets taken over by an opportunistic warlord. Insult the butcher? Well, now the tavern won't serve you. Save the dragon from the evil princess? Now he might come to your aid later on.
Character death is real and ever present.
You will probably lose a character or two or more.
Resurrection is not guaranteed, cheap, or easy. Characters can die at any time and their plot may not ever be completed.
That's why it's always great to bring a backup character.
Your backup character can join as soon as they are ready and there's a good time in the narrative. I'll do my best to fit them in quickly so you can continue playing.
